But after a fling with a mysterious villain, joining several super teams, and becoming a single father Roy Harper is the hero we all know and love. Green Arrow and Roy's relationship was decimated, and afterwards Roy struggled to find his place in the world. Roy Harper was known as Speedy, Green Arrow's sidekick for some time, until he began getting addicted to heroin. However, something about the boy intrigued Green Arrow and soon took the boy under his wing. Although he tried his hardest, he failed to win the competition. When the new hero known as Green Arrow showed up, Roy began to idolize the hero and soon joined an archery competition to impress the man known as Green Arrow. Brave Bow taught Roy archery and marksmanship, and due to Roy having few friends and a lot of time on his hands, he became incredible skilled. Roy was adopted by the medicine man in the tribe, Brave Bow. Roy's father died in a forest fire saving many lives on a Navajo reservation. The one sidekick Green Arrow wanted nothing to do with. Green Arrow and Speedy remained as recurring characters in More Fun Comics, as well as often appearing in Adventure Comics and Worlds Finest Comics. Green Arrow and his sidekick, Speedy, first appeared in the More Fun Comics #91 published on November 1941 and was the created by Mort Weisinger & George Papp who took inspiration from the legend of Robin Hood, the film The Green Archer and heavy influence from another DC character, Batman.
